TIPS + TRICKS: BUILDING AN EFFECTIVE AND EFFICIENT TEAM

“People who stay at their job for 20 years or 10 years even, they're unicorns, that just doesn't happen anymore because people want to experience new things and there's nothing wrong with that.” -Tuere Butler

Whether it’s “The Great Resignation,” or “Quiet Quitting,” there seems to be a new trend in the workforce every so often that tries to understand the reason for workers’ decision to leave an organization – whether to join a new organization or quit the workforce altogether.

The guest on this week’s Make Me Known podcast episode, Tuere Butler, has some incredible insight to share with us on how to ensure we are creating an effective and efficient organizaiton which starts with selecting the right talent and ensuring we are seeing a mutually beneficial relationship during the time spent together.

Let’s dive into a few tips and tricks…

  1. Synergy – What is it? Do they have it?

    1. Tuere describes how important this simple idea is. She encourages those looking to build or join a efficient and effective team to seek not only a mission minded person that is aligned with the mission of our organization, but also a cultural fit as well.

      1. She goes on to say, “I think a lot of times, organizations, companies, businesses are always looking at what it looks like on paper. Oh, did that person go to this school? How many jobs have they had? And yes, while all of that is very important, you can have someone that is picture perfect on their resume, all their references check out, but if there's no synergy amongst the existing team that you already have, there's a problem.”

  2. Go Old School - Try a Phone Interview First

    1. Tuere recommends beginning every candidate search with a good old phone interview and speaks into the value of verbal communication as we are so visually motivated these days.

      1. She says that while it seems a little old school, there's something about not seeing a person but rather talking with a person to see if they can effectively communicate and if you are getting your point across.

  3. Ask the Question, “Tell Me Something Not On Your Resume.”

    1. Tuere shares that this question allows the candidate to feel as though they can relax which then allows them the opportunity to share more or provide insight something more personal to them.

  4. Combatting “The Great Resignation”

    1. Tuere simplifies this one for us and says, “I think honestly, it's about honoring the people that are in your company, your organization, in a way that they feel seen and they are heard.”
